WHO ARE THE BREVARD COUNTY PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS?
|

|
The Brevard County Professional Fire Fighters Association represents over 400 career
Firefighters, Fire Safety Inspectors, 911 Emergency Dispatchers, Fire/Rescue District Chiefs,
and Training Captains employed by the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners. Our
organization is the exclusive bargaining agent for Brevard County Fire/Rescue uniformed
personnel. Our members staff Brevard County's 33 Fire/Rescue Stations, Communication Center,
and Fire Rescue Headquarters.
All firefighters in Local 2969 are Florida State Certified in
EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) or Paramedic.
The Fire Safety Inspectors are State Certified Inspectors. They inspect businesses and
properties to insure that they fire safe, perform arson investigations, and read, inspect,
and approve, all blueprint drawings for new and existing businesses. Some of the Inspectors
are crossed-trained EMT's.
The Fire/Rescue District Chiefs are responsible for area districts within Brevard County.
Each District Chief is responsible for certain number of stations and administrative tasks.
The 911 Dispatchers are the forefront for all the Fire & Medical emergencies in Brevard County.
They are state certified Emergency Medical Dispatchers (EMD), and Emergency Fire
Dispatchers (EFD). This gives them advanced training in
handling critical emergency medical situations - such as, giving CPR instructions to callers, how
to control severe bleeding, and many other emergencies. Also, many members continue their individual
schooling in obtaining College degrees.
The Training Captains are responsible for classroom instruction, hands on training, new hire
orientation & processing. The training captains are also instrumental in certification
classes that enable firefighters and medical personnel to maintain their State certifications.
Training Captains hold monthly training sessions for the Brevard County Volunteer firefighters
and medical reservists.
